Bedford County PA

Recent Trip to Bedford County

On a recent trip through Bedford county PA; we stopped at Old Bedford Village.

We took a walking tour of downtown Bedford and stopped to see the big coffee pot.


We also took the driving tour of several covered bridges.

Cumberland, MD

I have driven through Cumberland MD on I-68 many times and have wondered what all the big buildings were rising on the hillside. One day I stopped and had a look.

The Allegany County Courthouse on Washington St.

 Designed in 1893 by local architect Wright Butler in the Richardsonian Romanesque style.
































Emmanuel Episcopal Church
Lower down Washington St is built on the original foundation of old Ft Cumberland. George Washington's military career started here.

Covered Bridges Washington County PA

Washington County Bridge

Danley Covered Bridge


Located on a rough gravel road, the Danley  Bridge crosses the Robinson Fork of Wheeling Creek near West Finley PA. It is Queenpost truss construction 39 feet long.

Wyit Sprowls Bridge


Located in East Finley Park, the Wyit Sprowls Bridge crosses Templeton Fork of Wheeling Creek. This Queenpost truss bridge was built in 1915 originally in West Finley Twp and is 31 feet long.























Plants Bridge


The Plants Bridge also crossed the Templeton Fork of Wheeling Creek. This Queenpost truss bridge was built in 1915 and is 31 feet long. This Kingpost design bridge was built in 1876 and is 24 Feet long.

The Day Bridge


The Day Bridge is located in Morris Twp, PA and crosses Short Creek. This Queenpost design bridge was built in 1875 and is 36 Feet long.

Bailey Bridge


The Bailey Bridge is located in Arnwell Twp, PA and crosses Ten Mile Creek. This Burr Truss design bridge was built in 1889 and is 66 Feet long.









Somerset County

Lower Humbert Bridge


The Lower Humber Bridge is located in Lower Turkeyfoot Twp, PA and crosses Laurel Hill Creek. This Burr Truss design bridge was built in 1891 and is 126 Feet long.
